THE FIVE CHAIR CHALLENGE

Last Friday we had done an activities in class. The activities is call the five chair challenge. Each of us randomly pick a story card and try to understand it. Then we have to highlight 2 needs that we see in the description of the user, and design a chair for the person that we had choose. We have to use five different material to make a chair. The first task is we have to draw 3 different chair on a paper in 5 minutes. Then we have to cut out a standing representation of the chair by using scissors and a sheet of cardboard. We also try to use other material like a wire to bend out the chair. Beside that, we are using modelling clay to make out the shape of the chair. Lastly, we are using a toothpicks to build a chair. This is the 5 different materials that we use to design a chair and make a chair.

This are all my design for the chair. Actually I am going to design a chair for a 1 years old baby. She is call Maggie. She is one of the cartoon character. She loves to play around and wants to have fun. She likes to explore on her won and be independent while she sucks on her binky. But it's time for her to sit still, she will gets whiny and squirmy. So I try to design somethings fun but a the same time safe, so it can get her attractive and won't be whiny while in her binky. She can play around and explore while she is inside her binky.

Overall feeling

I fell like it is a good activities to help us gain confidence. Also, after this activities, I know that we cannot just stick on one design forever, we have to move froward. Sometime we spend to much time on thinking one idea and miss out others idea. Most of the time we will feel like we spend so much time on this idea, why do we still need to change it. That is why we will miss out other idea. So we have to move froward and find out more.

Among all this materials, the one that I enjoy the most is wire. It is eariesr for me to bend out any shape that I want. I don't like to use modelling clay to make model and craft because it is hard to make and it will be crack easily. I will get stuck in drawing because I am not clear at what I really want to do. But when I start making my design by different material, I feel like I really know what I want to make. The design is become clear and clear.
