SDG 12 Responsible Consumption & Production

SDG 12 is meant to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. Sustainable Consumption and Production (known as SCP) is also about doing more and better with less. The use of services and related products, which respond to basic needs and bring a better quality of life while minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials as well as the emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the service or product so as not to jeopardize the needs of future generations.

Why will have SDG 12? It is because our world is facing a big problem which is the irresponsible consumption and production affect environmental damage and affect future generations and development. Humans are wasting a lot of natural resources to fulfill their wish but in the end, they still wasting them and do not appreciate it. For example, irrational consumption patterns. Consumption buys many things at one time but in the end, the product spoilt or expired and it ends up in the trash.

Not only that, humans overuse water and release toxic into the river, so it causes water pollution. The larger water consumer will be the agriculture sector, 69% of annual water is used by them. Humans, also use “pesticides” a chemical to kill pests and use fertilization. All these chemicals could absorb into the soil and transport to the river, So this will cause water pollution. When water pollution happens, it will affect not only animals but humans as well. Like some of the country's people don't have clean food to eat and facing a water shortage problem. The kid and the people are suffering the pain of without clean food and clean water.

There are also few targets set by the SDG. By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse. By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature. By 2030, achieve sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources, and many more.

How can we help? We have to think of an idea to achieve some of the targets set by the SDG and this will be my project title for this semester. We have to design a space that relates to the SDG that we have chosen.

We need to raise public awareness and encourage the public to be responsible for production and consumption through experience and education. We also need to help the public increase their knowledge in order to be responsible for production and consumption. With the right knowledge, the public can be more appreciative of what they have now and will do something that will help the environment
